Coffee and Costa Rica have been entwined for over 200 years, ever since the first seeds were brought from the Caribbean.

Since then, you cannot speak of one without thinking of the other. For two centuries the country relied heavily on the coffee sector for its well being, development, and leadership. At the turn of the millennium, though, coffee now accounts for a rather small export share, but it is of social importance as an estimated 500,000 people make a living directly or indirectly from coffee, especially in economically underdeveloped areas.
